I have setup AI jobs and they are working fine on disk. Problem is we want to do two things, 1. Store more clients than we want to invest into disk (have single drive, 8 slot changer) 2. Create offsite copies of volumes.
I’m focusing on #1 right now. The Consolidate job works fine right now using disk volumes with 2 devices setup and two pools. But we want to start migrating at least the fulls over to tape as we don’t want to invest in so much disk. Here is what I think would work, as with a single tape drive I cannot run consolidate jobs with Full’s when Fulls reach Max Age into the same Consolidate pool if it’s on tape. I’m trying to wrap my head around of if the following is possible: 1. Full goes to disk pool (short volume retention/use times) 2. Migrate jobs from Full Disk pool to Tape pool with Migrate job 3. Incremental go to incremental disk pool 4. Consolidate jobs (including new VirtualFulls) goes to Full disk pool (which then gets migrated to tape). So effectively all “new Full” if a regular full or a VirtualFull from consolidate job, is “born” on disk. So it can read the last full from tape (use the single device drive), merge in all the incremental from a disk device. When finished we then migrate the job to the Tape pool and wipe out the old disk volume. Would this work? I’m not sure how to set it up, because the single “Next Pool” option appears someone limited in only having a single pool (also when getting to creating off sites with a single tape drive is an issue). The consolidate jobs without Full (just merged incremental) would then also go to this pool and be migrated to same pool, which is not exactly what I want ether. I would prefer the merged incremental to stay on disk pools. Only the huge Fulls go to the pool that migrates to tape. Be even better if you could just make a giant spool file, and use the single tape drive/job to do all the above (stage the old full from tape to disk, merge back to tape). Thoughts?
