hm. til now, when re-using a tape, i deleted the volume, purged it using mt 
weof and re-labeled the barcode in bconsule

maybe I should re-think this...

That is expected, when you label it it also writes a baroes header to the 
tape. You almost never re-label a tape but rather purge and recycle as 
things expire. So it’s a onetime setup. BTW other tape systems I have used

Using a tape changer, when I send a label barcode command, the tape in the 
drive is unloaded and a different one is loaded for labeling. Later the 
unloaded tape is loaded again and labeled.
This does not make sense to me?
