Dear b-folks,

I was asked (by the ensemble with whom I have been playing theorbo in
Monteverdi and Marcello and the like) to play lute in the famous alto aria
of the St. John Passion. I suppose I do not have any instrument suitable to
that. So my first question: By what instrument/tuning you have made that?
If memory serves, at least David v O. has written his experiences of
playing the piece. Must be hard to stay there and just wait the piece, and
after that just sit there another half an hour... ;-)
It is in b-minor, and if your lute is small enough you could do it in low-pitch c-minor, which makes
it a lot easier.

The 2nd: They also asked me to accompany Tartini violin concert op 96 (A
major), the slow 2nd movement by baroque guitar - the heroine who will play
the solo has asked for that instrument. What could I do? My 4 course
chitarrino could work. Would that be proper in Tartini? I guess not. On the
other hand, I suppose that internationally known(?) heroine (sorry I don't
remember her name) probably has some certain way of doing the continuo she
is used to? What could I answer? Not much experience in b-guitar, could
perhaps borrow one. And perhaps could also strum the chords... Anyone done
that piece? High art or fun? Difficult or easy?
Arto
Tartini generally has slow-progressing harmonies, so the concerto shouldn't be difficult.
