> Okay, I'm dutifully working my way through the "authorised" version of Weiss's > Allemande from Dresden vol. 2, Suite 9 in C Major.
Not sure what authorized could mean with this manuscript. Weiss set his name to some of the suites, and inferentially, they are autographs. On the other hand, there are some slightly differing concordances in the London manuscript where Weiss set his name as well. > I'm trying as hard as I can to > observe all the things that are going on within this piece, but I still have no idea > as to how the piece should sound. Are you referring to the mood / atmosphere / temper? I like this pieces very much, and I for one usually take it bright (allegro moderato). > Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to approach > this piece in order to make it sound as musical as possible? Sorry, no pun intended, but what do you mean by musical? -- There's the opening phrase in measures 1-2, answered in measure 3. The little in-between in the bass measure 2, beat 2-3, is echoed in measure 4, beat 2-3. And so on and so forth. I love the climax in measure 20-1, and the imitation in measures 27 and 29.
