Dear Ones,

I have no idea where to go to get help with this, but perhaps the collected
wisdom might help?

I recently moved my grandfather's lapidary workshop to the Bay Area to sell for
my father. My mom died last year and my Dad is now going to have to go to
assisted living. It is now occupying space in my garage in Fremont and I need
to get this out as soon as I can.

My grandfather collected these grinders, polishers, workbenches, gem drill,
faceting machine, and all kinds of equipment, rocks, supplies and books in the
1950s and 1960s when he lived in Solano Beach, after he retired from the
military. They were moved once to San Diego and then they were given to my
family. My Dad had them shipped to my home town of Visalia in 1973 from my
grandparents home in San Diego, and then stored them for 38+ years in the our
garage. He never once opened the boxes or drawers to see what was there. I
did before moving them and found all kinds of letters and family documents.

When I got to the Bay Area, we did a more detailed study of the boxes and found
a piece of ivory, a 5 inch long, about 4 inch wide, piece of tusk of some kind,
in with the rocks and slabs. Knowing that some kinds of Ivory are prohibited,
I am wondering what kind of use this piece would have? How can I get rid of
this in a useful manner? It has no documentation at all, and my grandfather
died in 1981.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Mike Peterson
