   Hi Ed,
There were at least two DuButs and possibly three. The first one was
probably a contemporary of Denis Gaultier and another (his son?) was
around in 1700ish. Names and dates for two of them appear in this
   Wikipedia article:
   [1]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_composers_for_lute#France No
   mention of Mercure there, though.
Rod Blocksidge knows more about them than me. He's in the ning lute
   forum: lutegroup.ning.com

Subject: [BAROQUE-LUTE] Dubut and Jean Mercure
Does anyone have any biographical data on the 2 French baroque lute
composers Bubut and Mercure? Please note that there were 2 Mersures
   - one was Mercure 'd Orleans, and the other Jean Mercure. I am
   interested in Jean.
Anay and all submissions are well appreciated, especially if the
   information is in English!
   Thanks in advance,
   ed
