Dear Lute friends, most probably you all know the Christmas carol "Silent Night" (Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht) which was composed exactly 200 years ago by Franz Xaver Grubner to a lyric by Joseph Mohr in the small town Oberndorf near Salzburg in Austria.
Today, the Austrian Film Archive released the most oldest surviving sound and picture version of this Christmas carol. It was discovered most recently in the archive and dates back to the year 1910 (!). If possible please follow the link to hear and view this more than 100 years old sound and picture recording: [1]https://orf.at/video/play/filehandler/640827 [2]Silent Night / Stille Nacht Merry Christmas to all of you from Vienna. -- References 1. https://orf.at/video/play/filehandler/640827 2. https://orf.at/video/play/filehandler/640827 To get on or off this list see list information at http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/~wbc/lute-admin/index.html
