Good news! I just upgraded my Pearl firmware to 4.2.0.71 (platform 2.2.0.41) and btool no longer gives me a timeout on USB. Both the cvs version and 0.6 work just fine. I have to run 'bcharge -o' of course, not bcharge. Earlier versions of the firmware that it did not work with were 4.2.0.64 and 4.2.0.67.
