running blackbarry pearl with v4.2.1.103 (patform 2.3.0.82)

What does this mean? I'm confused as I've already found that I am
unable to update the firmware on my blackberry, both because  can't
find the downloads and because I don't have, nor have access to a
windows machine of any kind.
