This error is usually because the device was left in the Desktop state due to a crash in the sync, or btool, etc. You can try running "breset" or just replug the device. I don't fully understand the initial open protocol when it is in this state. I think it is probably trying to tell me that a socket is already opened. Fortunately the workaround is simple enough: just reset.
