All, I got the 8830 running under Ubuntu 8.04.1 and Barry 0.13 with Sprint as the carrier.
There was a change needed to the pppob line to force a serial connection. I'm not sure why, but the Ipmodem protocol doesn't work on this device even though pppob believes it should be supported. Basically, all you have to do is change the following line in /etc/ppp/peers/barry-sprint Old: pty "/usr/bin/pppob" New pty "/usr/bin/pppob -s" I still have a problem with NetworkManager not knowing that ppp is up and telling all apps that the system is offline, but I'm working through that. Seems to be a bug in NM....
