Hi,

may I ask for your help with installation of Barry?
I'm not a programmer and quite unexperienced with Linux.

Chris Frey told me by mail, that I should try it on this list.
(Thanks for your mail, Chris :)

My system: Kubuntu 8.04
My BB: 7730 (OS 4.0.2)

I used the tutorial, part 3, from the following page
http://www.chipbennett.net/wordpress/index.php/2008/05/synchronizing-a-blackberry-in-linux/

I installed the following packages of the standard repository ...

     * libopensync0
       (OpenSync framework)
     * opensync-plugin-kdepim
       (OpenSync KDE-PIM plugin)
     * opensyncutils
       (OpenSync command-line utilities)
     * kitchensync
       (KDE OpenSync GUI)
     * libusb-0.1-4
     * multisync
       (PIM synchronization tool)
     * multisync-tools
       (command-line utilities for multisync)
     * multisync-plugin-all

... and these one from the download section of sourceforge

     * barrybackup-gui_0.13-1.2_ubuntu804_i386.deb
     * barry-util_0.13-1.2_ubuntu804_i386.deb
     * libbarry_0.13-1.2_ubuntu804_i386.deb
     * libopensync-plugin-barry_0.13-1.2_ubuntu804_i386.deb

| ~$ btool -t
| Blackberry devices found:
| No device selected

My device seems to be not recognized at the usb port.

At the same port my usb stick works fine.

My BB is charged without problems by the usb port, even before the
installation of the packages.

What could I do please to let my system "find" my device?

Thanks.

Regards from Berlin, Andreas

PS: One question about usability of the installation process.
Is it possible to offer one single package, which installs all libraries
and applications, checks dependencies etc. at once?
If so: what do you think of that idea?
