The only way to track down these kinds of things is to log verbosely and hope that a pattern emerges, or capture the USB traffic when using Vista and compare with Linux. Maybe someone has already done that, and I just haven't caught up on the mailling list yet. :-) My general position on this is that well-written firmware should not reboot itself no matter what data is thrown at it.
