OK, I got it working on VMware server by doing "export
VMWARE_DEBUG=yes" and then "/etc/init.d/vmware restart" in addition to
the steps mentioned on the instructions on the sourceforge site
previously linked to.

I would like it if there were a way that I wouldn't have to  unplug
and replug the device from the Linux box running VMware Server after
the BlackBerry reboots. I find that I have to do the replug during the
"waiting for device initialization" part while reloading with
apploader after a wipe.
