There are 2 things that spring to mind: 1) Is it possible to convert the characters you're interested in from WINDOWS-1252 to UTF-8 and back? 2) If you turn on debug output in the plugin (DebugMode in the config), can you post the packets that cause the 0x41/0x40 error? I'm assuming this only happens when writing a contact to the device, but can you confirm?
