I'm sorry for the long delay in getting back to this, however I'm happy to 
report that I grabbed the latest code from CVS today and the problems I was 
having seem to be solved. I tested the code on both my FreeBSD 7.0 home 
system and my 6.0 laptop, and both btool and bjavaloader worked fine out of 
the box.

I even captured a screenshot of my phone's home screen:
