Hi.

I have been attempting to use my Blackberry 8330 as a modem for DUN using
barry on my Debian lenny AMD64 laptop.

I have installed the Debian unstable packages (please see below). I
modified the barry-verizon script by adding the password by passing it to
pppob using the -P flag (renaming the modified script as "VERIZON")

I have been able to establish DUN using this approach by invoking

$ sudo pon VERIZON

However, there is no consistency in my ability to establish DUN. Often, I
get a message indicating that it is "Initializing" and then after a few
seconds I get the message that the connection has failed:

hotelling:~$ sudo pon VERIZON
Initializing
Connect script failed
Waiting for 1 child processes...
  script /usr/sbin/pppob -P ????????, pid 22462
sending SIGTERM to process 22462

Killing the ppp job and unplugging/replugging the device from the USB port
does not seem to help. I do check to make sure that the device is
recognized by btool before I invoke pon.

I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to get this to work in a more
consistent manner.

Right now, I mainly resort to establishing DUN using bluetooth but that is
relatively slow. I had much better success with barry on my old Thinkpad
(running lenny 32 bit with the deb packages from the opensuse page) so I
hope that my problems are not related to using a 64bit OS.

Thanks,

Kouros
