Apologies if this is the wrong forum, but I didn't see a Bugzilla or Trac
instance for Barry, so I'll describe my issues, here.
1) My BB 8830WE (EVDO, Verizon, USA) can tether and I can connect to the
Internet. But after initiating and terminating the first PPP connection
through the 8830, I can't intitate any more PPP connections unless I remove
and replace the battery from the 8830, rebooting it.
I think this was noted in the docs, but I'd like to know whether this is
considered a Barry bug, or a problem with the 8830? I can work around it
for now, but it's going to get old, pretty fast.
2) Every single time I terminate PPP connection through the 8830, the
'pppob' process hangs and locks up indefinitely. It will not die on it's
own, or with a SIGTERM--I have to 'kill -9' the process to stop 'pppob'.
This is true whether a connection is successfully opened or not--every time
'pppob' runs, it locks up, hard.
I didn't see any existing references about this issue, but I did wonder
whether it's related to the #1 problem, above.
Other info: I'm running Fedora 10 (x86-64) with the latest updates to the
packages 'ppp', 'barry', and 'barry-libs', but other than that it's mostly
included on the installation DVD. I am running NetworkManager, but I'm
using 'pppd call barry-verizon' to start PPP connections (and then manually
adding VZ's DNS servers to /etc/resolv.con). My laptop is a Toshiba
Satellite U205-S5034, and I'm connecting it to the 8830 via a USB cable.
Oh, and I blacklisted the 'berry_charge' module, too.
In any case, I would be happy to provide more information--let me know
what's useful. I can also provide detailed debug information, if someone
can lay out the procedures I should use.
Sincerely,
Ryan B. Lynch
P.S. -- Barry is incredible. I love it and I really appreciate the work
being done, here.
