Hi there, I am using the 2009/07/10 version from git repo; Builds nicely on my Debian/Ubuntu laptops using a simple dpkg-buildpackage.
I just read Chris's plans for releases in the weekly digest, and I was wondering if the group is aware of two issues I am having, one with contact corruption and one with phone number mappings. 1) If I am editing a contact on my Blackberry 8300 while executing an update for that same contact from Evolution, I corrupt the Blackberry contact. The result is an contact that can never be deleted from the Blackberry. (I have a few of these currently awaiting a purge on the blackberry, and a wholesale update from Evolution). Perhaps there is a device call to close open for edit contacts, or a way to avoid syncing open for edit contacts during the sync process. Part of the problem is related to next problem, whereby I am constantly examining phone numbers fields when de-duplicating contacts. 2) Phone field matching seems to be a bit strange. Contacts that have only Home, Work, Mobile seem to sync fine. As soon as I have four phone numbers in my Blackberry, then sync to Evolution, edit in Evolution at a later date, and sycn back to Blackberry, the phone number fields get mixed up. It seems if Work 2 and Home 2 (Blackberry) are used, then things get really mixed up .. ending up with mulitple "Mobile" numbers in Evolution that I can no longer distinguish between. For instance I have one contact that I have never edited in Evolution synced between both: In my Blackberry I have the original: Work: A Work 2: B Home: C Pager: D Fax: E In Evolution I have Other Fax: B Mobile: B Home: A Business Fax: C Pager: D In this case, if I edit in Evolution, I will loose the Fax number, the mobile is confused and the home number changes. Basically for contacts with more than two number numbers, I need to carefully program only: Home, Work, Mobile, Pager in Evolution to make it sync and put a "legend" in my notes field to help me navigate. As a side note, I store PIN numbers in notes too, as these get lost whenever I edit in Evolution. Anyways, I very happy with Barry overall with it finally re-enabling my contact network via my Blackberry. I hope I can get a bit more involved with solving my own problems eventually. If I can help get these two issues on the roadmap with debugging and test cases, let me know. cheers, Ian -- Ian B.
