Are all installs via RPM packages? If not, make sure that everything is truly cleaned up from your own compiles. Make sure that there are no stray "barry_sync*" modules lying around in the opensync plugin directories. The null error looks pretty odd. Does it happen right away? If so, maybe there is a missing library for one of the plugins (unlikely) or you might need to re-create your BlackberrySunbird config. i.e. delete it and start over.
