hi back again.
it worked for a little while now not again. Im seeing something strange in the mysql logs. Im doing a "tail -f" on the query log. While my scanner is running nothing is logged in the mysql log. When I restart MailScanner its flushing a lot of inserts to the mysql - not just new, but mails from the last month. then when its started again no new are logged until I do a restart.
