You need to use GIT to do that (so you can pull the latest files versions), I used a software called "poedit" found here http://www.poedit.net/ to translate the .po file, open the original english .pot file in poedit (New catalog from POT file) and save the file as da_DK.po (for Danish translation if I'm not wrong), but before that you have to play with GIT and get use to use GIT for pushing your new translation once it's ready.
