I just noticed that you used the SpamSnake tutorial. There is something that needs changed in the startup script for permissions. Change all the www-data group settings in /etc/init.d/mailscanner to celeryd.
I also had to change some things in the script in order to be compliant with perl. You can find my last post here: http://www.howtoforge.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60517 I am not sure if this will help or not but since you used the spamsnake tutorial, it may be relevant.
