There was a posting on the ABC news message board about the Red Cross not getting most of funds raised for disaster relief to the victims with figures from the 9 - 11 and our 1989 earthquake relief drives. I wonder about the person's credibility, so I'm not going to repeat it. But I do know that the Red Cross uses the funds raised for relief efforts to support their salaried personnel to a larger extent than most would like. While I was in the military, I was told by a military person that he sent some money to his family in a foreign country through the Red Cross, less than half the money actually got to the family. Ever since I do not donate to the Red Cross. Their overhead seems to be too high. There are other organizations that use more of their raised funds for their cause. Please look into going through a different organization.
