Announcements:
Cheryl announced the Locus poll results were announced last week and Frank Wu placed 13th [very well] and Emerald City placed 8th

Reviews:
Julie reviewed the Marin Heart of the Forest Ren Fest that opened last weekend as it doesn’t seem to have changed much in the last 5 years & is worth seeing & reviewed a book on rockets as good 4th of July reading & a book on Mercator as it was a good read and rather dark in places & had amusing foot notes.

Mike reviewed ‘Fantastic 4’ as he wasn’t expecting much from it & it was still fun - worth sneaking into after you’ve seen your regular movie. I follow-on’d that I enjoyed it more than I expected & rated it worth matinee; Trey follow-on’d that the fx were nice & he enjoyed the character interplay & he wasn’t disappointed

Art reviewed a show called ‘Coupling’ that he saw on KQED as akin to ‘Friends’ mixed with ‘Sex in the City’ & thought it amusing

Kevin reviewed Westercon as it seemed under-populated & the newsletter was creative in its spelling [& Eric asked if Kevin had tried reading it backwards] & commented that the dealer’s room was . . . light. He felt it was worth attending & that 89% of the votes went for San Jose in 2007. Other comments were made - that the hotel lobby was already being docrated for the Calgary Stampede; there was an amusing SM Stirling story; Kevin came in 2nd in the Hawaiian shirt contest & the Locus banquet food was quite nice. Dave C followed, saying he did about what he expected to as a dealer & that crossing the border was a visit to the 8th circle of hell, he recommends that if you have to take goods across the border to go thru someone bonded when travelling each way

Cheryl reviewed Construction & especially the ‘If I Ran the Zoo’ game as very entertaining

Art also reviewed ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’ as visually stunning & worth full price

I reviewed ‘Madagascar’ as a movie I expected nothing from & was totally enchanted by - well worth full price just for the lemurs & penguins; then reviewed ’War of the Worlds’ as impressed they kept the 1st and last paragraph & Wells’ ending & that other than that it had lots of special fx & a few good scenes, but that it was a worth-seeing-once movie at matinee price

We auctioned off = book for $2.50; $2.00; $2.00; $2.00 & $2.00

We adjourned at = 9:32 pm

And the rumor of the week was that ‘Dave Clark will win the next CBS reality show - ‘Survivor Customs’
