ConJose Issues 2004 Financial Report, Restates 2003
Report

ConJose, the 2002 World Science Fiction Convention
(Worldcon), has issued its financial reports to the
World Science Fiction Society (WSFS) for the fiscal
year ending June 30, 2004. ConJose also issued a minor
restatement of its 2003 Report. As of June 30, 2004,
the remaining surplus of ConJose subject to WSFS
reporting requirements was $7,878.

ConJose's parent non-profit corporation, San Francisco
Science Fiction Conventions, Inc. (SFSFC), formally
discharged the ConJose Worldcon Operating Committee at
the SFSFC Board of Directors meeting on July 17, 2004.
SFSFC then established a ConJose Asset Management
Committee and charged it with managing the remaining
assets and residual responsibilities of ConJose',
including preparing reports to WSFS.

After filing their 2003 report with WSFS, the ConJose
committee discovered a number of minor errors and
adjustments affecting their report for the period
ending June 30, 2003. The net change in total income
was $287. ConJose submitted a restatement of their 2003
report along with their 2004 report.

Copies of ConJose's 2004 report to WSFS are available
for download from their parent corporation's web site
at http://sfsfc.org/press/CJReport2004WSFSBM.pdf.
Copies of the restated 2003 report are available for
download at http://sfsfc.org/press/CJReport2003WSFSBM-
restatement.pdf.

As expected, ConJose had nearly no income in fiscal
year 2004, while it continued to pay residual expenses
of the 2002 Worldcon, pass surplus funds to its
successors, and fund grants issued by SFSFC Inc.

ConJose's total income from inception through June 30,
2004 was $982,113. Convention operating expense was
$817,162, and net non-operating expense (mostly
currency fluctuation) was $4,904, for a convention
available surplus of $160,047. Out of this, ConJose
paid $107,952 in membership reimbursements to qualified
program participants, committee, staff, and volunteers,
and $39,467 in "pass-along funds" grants to its three
successor Worldcons, as well as $4,750 in grants
authorized by SFSFC.

Worldcons are required to issue reports to the annual
business meeting of WSFS held at each Worldcon.
Worldcons that generate a surplus of revenue over
expenses must submit reports to WSFS annually until the
surplus is totally expended or an amount equal to the
original surplus has been disbursed.

The ConJose Asset Management Committee, in their cover
letter to their reports, stated that SFSFC has issued
or authorized $5,600 in additional grants after June
30, 2004. Under SFSFC direction, the committee expects
to disburse the remaining surplus funds of the 2002
Worldcon over the next year or two and to make
ConJose's Final Report to either the 2005 or 2006 WSFS
Business Meeting.
