Announcements:
Kevin announced that he was both smart and dumb today. Smart in that he
was able to get playoff tickets for the Giants for games 1 & 2 held
here; dumb because he'll be in Oregon on those play days. So he is
annoyed but wants to sell them now
Cheryl announced she has a 'First Night Times' for pass-around reading
Dave G announced he won't be here next week and will be in Chicago; also
that he will be moving storage spaces from Dublin to Fremont on Sunday,
Oct 3 & is looking for help. Also that there are auction items today
Art announced that the 'Star Wars' revised DVDs will be on sale starting
tomorrow
Ed passed out a promo for PENSFA, wishing to encourage new folks to visit it
Dave C announced he has a copy of 'Woof' for reading (& is still selling
books so you don't have to)
Reviews:
Eric reviewed the Ren Faire Sunday as soggy but fun & the ownership is
now a collective & the weather - when not dripping - was good; worth
going to; Dave G follow-on'd that the 'Comical' [Chronicle] had a review
comparing the Ren Faire to rock concerts; I follow-on'd that Trey & I
went Saturday when the weather was perfect, I enjoyed it tons, thought
it worth full price; Julie follow-on'd that a friend of hers was photo'd
for the review mentioned by Dave; Trey follow-on'd that he had a good
deal of fun there & they had a lot of good shows there & rated it worth
full price, but go with friends
Eric also reviewed 'Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow' as visually
pretty & shot completely in front of a green screen - full of homages,
in-jokes - not a lot of plot but fun to watch; worth real cheap matinee;
Frank follow-on'd that he & Alison saw it at the Dublin Imax & it's
meant to be very cool, not about characterization; a cool looking movie
but park your brain at the door & worth full Imax price; Dave G
follow-on'd that he enjoyed the movie but thought it a movie in search
of background & structure - to watch out for a sequel - worth Imax
matinee price
Cheryl reviewed ‘FinnCon 04' as they certainly do their SF well; (the
tshirt was great) & their fanzines look great. They also got a lot of
press & the con itself was great fun & she had an absolutely fabulous time
Frank reviewed the ribs as worth full price & rates spending time with
Dave, Dave & Spring as also worth full price
Dave G reviewed Frank's BBQ charred meat items as definitely worth
bridge tolls and full price
Julie reviewed the Charles Schultz museum as it lived up to the
alternate universe review she thought she'd heard here [my theory being
she time traveled and heard her own review] - and thought it worth full
price but don't go up on a Friday afternoon.
Nathan reviewed the TowerMart in Lathrop as they offered cheap gas &
insides the aliens from the crashed spaceship had completely run amok &
are kind of dusty
Dave C reviewed the 'How Berkeley can you be' parade as it's not very
disciplined with thankfully few nudists & worth seeing for free
We auctioned off stuff = Kevin bday auction for $15.00 to Cheryl; Alison
bday auction for $39.00 to Frank; Nathan bday auction for $15.00 to
Nathan; the Finnish fannish package for $3.00 & 2 issues of Aboriginal
SF for $1.25 to 2 bidders
We adjourned at = 9:45 pm
And the rumor of the week was that ‘one day all the pens will be ours'
