next week, as he will be in NYC
Kevin announced that Emerald City is out in ‘net-and and he will bring
in paper copies next week - and that Cheryl found India to be very nice
Reviews:
I reviewed ‘Whispering Nickel Idols’ by Glenn Cook as an entertaining
read - recommended & worth pb, especially if the book is purchased from
Dave Clark
Then Baycon was reviewed - exhausting. Kevin reviewed the ‘LotR’ pinball
game there are he thought $0.75 was a lot to pay for 3 balls but it had
a proper blend of challenge & achievability; Fred follow-on’d that
everyone seemed very happy at con; Dave C follow-on’d that ‘book dealers
ruled! We killed!’; Kevin follow-on’d that the corset dealers did a
great business; Frank follow-on’d that he -wore- a corset & was happy
people had a good time; George follow-on’d that he had a wonderful time
& thought the programming was fantastic [good one Dierdre!]; Lisa
follow-on’d that it was wonderfully fun & silly & well done; Ed
follow-on’d that the panels he did had annoying audience participation
[& George accepted the credit for this & grinned]; Vanessa follow-on’d
that panels went well, were on time & the family friendly programming
was very well done; Kevin follow-on’d that he was astonished by the
energy of the con & the mood was upbeat - with lots of young faces
attending & he hopes that the con co0mmittee will breathe new life into
Westercon 2007 [& that other people can take lessons from them]; Dave C
follow-on’d that Chris Garcia was a great toastmaster; Frank follow-on’d
that he had a fabulous time & was treated like royalty & had a blast &
emphasized that Michael Siladi, Elisa Sheets & Tychol did a fabulous,
fabulous job running Baycon; Trey follow-on’d that there was tremendous
energy at the con this year & there were lots of hall costumes attending
again & he had a great time; Ed follow-on’d that folks in costume did
their job of surprising the mundanes & Frank follow-on’d that the
costume competition monsters were the funniest damn things
Frank reviewed a book ‘George Bush Dark Prince of Love’ by Lydia Millet
as very funny wacko-political-romance - he was moved - & thought it
worth full price
Dave C reviewed MIA at the Fillmore [doing British/Sri
Lankan/street/hiphop] as very fun & then LCD Soundsystem [dance/punk] as
everyone had fun & there was no mosh pit & highly recommends it [but did
not think it worth going thru a scalper for tickets]
Trey reviewed ‘Daikaiju!’, an anthology, as interesting & had several
really cool stories in it - worth trade pb if Frank Wu autographs it
George reviewed ‘That Darn Squid God’ by Nick Polatta as a Victorian
pastiche that he enjoyed it a great deal, worth trade pb
And the rumor of the week was ‘Spring puts the worm in slerm, [submitted
anonymously by Dave G]’
We adjourned at = 9:15 pm
