A friend of mine, author and Klingon linguist Lawrence W. Schoen, has
started a project to send books (novels -all genres, textbooks and recent
magazines, gently used or new) to troops serving in Iraq.
He has arranged for someone to pick up the tab for shipping them (even the
cost from your house to the clearing house!), but he needs the books. His
website is listed below and includes instructions for arranging shipment.
Again - you don't pay shipping. However, he does also take monetary
donations for the overhead of the project.
While these books are intended for adults - because they're going to a
Muslim country please check out the subject-matter no-no's on his website.
