It's Hugo Recommendation Time!

Starting January 30 and continuing for the following two Mondays,
immediately following the main BASFA meeting (which we will try to
shorten slightly to give us sufficient time), BASFA will do our
traditional Hugo Award Recommendations. This is your chance to suggest
to your friends those works/people that you think should be nominated
for this year's Hugo Awards.

This year's Worldcon in in Anaheim (L.A.con IV, August 23-27 -- the
Wednesday-Sunday before the Labor Day weekend, one week earlier than
"traditional" Worldcon dates). If you are a member of either this
year's Worldcon or last year's Worldcon (Interaction, Glasgow), you are
eligible to cast a nominating vote on this year's Hugo Awards.

If you were not a member of Interaction but still want to be able to
cast a Hugo Award nomination ballot this year, you need to join L.A.con
IV as at least a supporting member by January 31. See
http://www.laconiv.org/2006/reg/reg.htm for details. You can join
online, or see me in person at BASFA.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE ELIGIBLE TO NOMINATE TO MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS AT
BASFA. Even if you are not a member of either L.A.con IV or
Interaction, you can still make recommendations to your fellow fans.

For information about this year's Hugo Awards, see
http://www.laconiv.org/2006/hugos/hugos.htm.

For a general discussion about the nominating process, see
http://www.laconiv.org/2006/hugos/hugonom.htm

For the nominating ballot online, see
http://www.laconiv.org/2006/hugos/hugoform.htm

For a PDF of a paper ballot, see
http://www.laconiv.org/2006/pdf/hugonom.pdf. Paper ballot forms should
be available at BASFA.

Thanks to Cheryl Morgan, the recommendations we make at BASFA will be
added to the Emerald City Hugo Recommendations list:
http://www.emcit.com/hugo_section.php?rec.htm.

Another club that maintains a Hugo recommendations list is the New
England Science Fantasy Association: See
http://www.nesfa.org/recommends/hugos05.html for details.

The plan is to work from the bottom of the ballot upwards, doing
one-third of the categories each week. (See schedule below) You can
still make recommendations at any other time; we'll just concentrate on
categories in this order. If you can't make it to the meeting(s), just
send your recommendations directly to Cheryl ([EMAIL PROTECTED]).
