Reviews:
Joanie reviewed ‘To Say Nothing of the Dog’ & ‘Inside Job’, both by
Connie Willis as she thought ‘Dog’ was entertaining but not hilarious
and she enjoyed it, while ‘Job’ was a well-paced novella - both worth
full price mass market

Chris reviewed another ‘next best thing ever’ = ‘V for Vendetta’ as the
script was really good, Natalie Portman didn’t annoy him & Hugo Weaving
was awesome & he’s really glad he saw it; Dave C follow-on’d that it was
a very faithful adaptation - everything was great & for the first time
you will believe [omitted by those who don’t believe]

Cheryl reviewed academics as they drink a lot, that she had the chance
to smash crabs with a mallet and went a long way to end with the pun
‘squid pro quo’

Andy reviewed the press coverage of ‘Dr Who’ last week as fact-checking
is not something that journalists do and there were a lot of
inaccuracies - but that the Merc review was pretty good [and there were
some follow-ons]

Jim reviewed the Contact conference at NASA/Ames as ‘great - worth full
price, absolutely’

We did birthday auctions = Kurt sold for $10.00 to Nancy; Nancy sold for
$8.00 to herself & Spring sold to $50.00 to Dave G; then auctioned off
books for = $3.00; $0.25; $0.25; $5.00; $4.25; $5.00; a bar-towel $3.00;
more books for $2.00; $2.75; $0.25; tar candy for $0.25 & $0.25

We adjourned at = 9:27 pm

And the rumor of the week was = ‘anti-fortunately, Chris is not Dave’
