Hello all!
Dr. Jay Pinson (Dean Emeritus, Engineering, San Jose State University) is founding a three week Summer Academy for middle school students this upcoming summer. The Silicon Valley Engineering Council (SVEC) has endorsed it. We need middle school students to apply pretty quickly. Can you all help get the word out by publicizing to anyone you think may be interested? Cost is $200, but can be waived if you write a letter explaining financial need. It'll be a GREAT experience for the students.

Sessions Starting June 26 or July 17
The Summer Academy for Middle School Students is
being offered by the Silicon Valley Engineering Council in partnership with
Santa Clara County Office of Education, San Jose State University, and the 2010
International Science and Engineering Fair. It is designed to help students at
the middle school level - to explore and improve the skills needed for them to
pursue college level work in the fields of engineering and technology. Course
instruction will be provided by credentialed teachers along with the support
from industry professionals and college students. Problem solving techniques and
hands-on laboratory projects will be taught concurrently to reinforce students’
understanding and learning.
Sessions will be three weeks in length, starting on
either June 26, 2006 or July 17, 2006. Each class will be limited to 25 students
and will be for three hours, starting at either 9AM or 1 PM, Monday through
Friday.
Those who are interested should complete the
application on the SVEC
website and send to Summer Academy, SVEC, P.O. Box 611865, San Jose,
CA 95161, by June 9, 2006. There will be very limited enrollment so an early application
is highly suggested. All sessions will be held at the College of Engineering at
San Jose State University.
