Trey Haddad, President Chris Garcia, Vice-President Dave Gallaher, Treasurer Galen Tripp, Sargent at Arms Barbara Johnson-Haddad, Secretary Began 8:05 [with comments about virgin sacrifices & Chris presiding] 26 people attended Secretary’s report: the minutes of meeting 825 were accepted as ‘I’m sorry, he derailed my train of thought’ We established a party jar Trey was offered a pun license for $3.50, but declined to purchase it A Treasurer’s report was that last week we took in $3.30 in the regular jar [total = $8484.70] & took in $123.48 in the party jar [total $302.92] The VP wished to register many complaints & reported that there is a new issue of ‘Drink Tank’ out [including an article about why wiki is evil] & that a new Pacheco progress report will be done by Baycon & that the fanzine lounge [room 247] will rock hard - plus there will be a BASFA meeting here [at the Hickory Pit] on Monday The President stated he had nothing fannish to report The Sports Committee reported that the Churchill Cup [rugby] will come to this area this year, to expect updates and there should be games in Santa Clara June 3rd, 7th & 10th The Hollister in ’08 bid committee has distributed membership forms to the committee’s agents The Party Committee is ready for Baycon & says the party will be Friday night in room 353 & he has plenty of BASFA ribbons and is still looking for volunteer help. Show up at the room at 5pm Friday Business Dave G proposed to name the Doubletree a part of Silicon Valley & the motion was postponed indefinately [evil] Kevin moved that since I80 connects Iowa to the Bay Area that Des Moines be considered a part of the Bay Area for purposes of CostumeCon 24 & this passed Art received an email asking about writer’s workshops in the Bay Area and would like info to pass along Announcements Cheryl announced there are new ‘Emerald Cities’ & she has the latest issue of ‘Interzone’ to pass around & that Café Press is discounting the WSFS Armadillo gear by 20% for the next 3 days Bob announced author Terry Hickman is visiting us [she waved ‘hi’ to us] from Nebraska and hopes to see us at Baycon [evil] Kevin announced that Jennifer Tifft is visiting us [she waved ‘hi’ to us] & announced that filker Leigh Ann Hussey died this last week & that CostumeCon 26 memberships will go on sale at Baycon on Friday & there will be a Legion of Evil Genius party on Friday night Mike announced there is a Legion of Rasselon meeting in the usual place on Friday night to watch episodes 3-4 of Dr Who in a mob Several folks announced that there will be conventions going on this weekend Andy announced that it was Sherlock Holmes’ birthday [which was corrected to it was Conan Doyle’s birthday] today Reviews: I reviewed the food at Bay 101’s bar [broiler menu] as very unpleasant [the scallops smelled like week old goldfish tank] - & reviewed ‘Touch of Pink’, seen on DVD, as a fun little movie & worth full price Cheryl reviewed the greatest victory of Finn-kind ever - on the music front - in that Finland’s Lordi won Eurovision Andy reviewed Parallel’s Desktop, a virtualization tool for the Mac, currently out in beta, as dead reliable and worth what he paid for it Chris reviewed visiting the greatest thing huckster-kind has ever devised - the American Girl Doll Store - as there were little girls everywhere & the ‘squee’ terrified him & it was worth being dragged along to & reviewed ‘Duck Soup’ as he got to visit it and was very excited & reviewed ‘Over the Hedge’ as William Shatner’s best role in years and in general was a good film to see and worth $7.50 Jennifer reviewed the Nebula awards weekend as lots of fun Ken reviewed ‘The DaVinci Code’ as he was told the movie was better than the book in that the movie had music and action & thought it was worth getting to see for free Kevin reviewed ‘The Diogenes Club’ by Kim Newman as very good - ‘buy copies of this book’ Harold reviewed ‘A Short History of Basically Everything’ as worth reading & recommends it We auctioned off stuff, birthday auctioned off Sue to Ed for $10.00; birthday auctioned off Adrienne to Ed for $13.00; then books for = $2.00; $1.00; $5.00; $4.00; $5.00; $3.00; $2.75 & $2.75 We adjourned at = 9:45 pm And the rumor of the week was = ‘It’s all Heyward’s fault’ _______________________________________________ basfa mailing list [email protected] http://vesta.wallis.com/mailman/listinfo/basfa
