I like the review...I think. Regarding the cover: it is not iffy; it downright stinks. This is a classic example of a cover that has nothing to do with the story -- an amateurish illustration of a dapper gorilla wearing a Panama hat for a story about the plight unusual, genetically engineered creatures in which the two protagonists are both female -- and that IMHO shows how important cover art is in setting the stage for the story -- where this one fails miserably.

Also, I would like to know if Joni was guarantying that teens would read the book because it deals with animal rights issues (it doesn't), or for some other reason.

Was it worth half price?

Reviews:
Joni reviewed Mark Janson’s ‘Apers’ as it addressed animal rights topics and guarantees teens will read it, the prose is stilted and the cover is iffy at best

Dave C reviewed ‘The Prestige’ as magicians feuding in Edwardian England; worth full price

Dave G reported there’s a big tent over Howard Street for Oracle World

Chris reviewed ‘100 years of Horror Films’ as worth sitting through, that the 2nd season of Harvey Birdman attorney at Law as brilliant, that Sealab 2021 was equally funny & he’s not quite sure he gets ‘Lost’; there were many follow-ons

Carole reviewed bicycle accidents with teenagers as it sucks, that Stanford Hospital was unimpressive and Warren King is a good sports surgeon

Andy said ‘he has seen the future at the San Mateo Marriott’ and says Baycon will be ‘cozy’, that Westercon will probably be OK & he reviewed the 1st episode of ‘Torchwood’ as worth breaking the law for, not Dr Who, not CSI Cardiff, nicely shot, pretty good writing

[evil] Kevin reviewed [tall] Kevin’s lessons in parliamentary procedures were well worth it

An unnamed person reviewed Bujold’s newest novel as quite good

We auctioned off stuff - books for $0.25, $3.00, $0.25 & $1.00; a stamp for $2.00 & birthday auctioned Chris off for $25.00

We adjourned at = 9:27 pm

And the rumor of the week was = ‘Evil Kevin will lead us to distilled water’
