Hello All:

Last week, we found out that a neighbor of someone we know died rather
unexpectedly. We met his sister (A very nice woman from Florida.), and
we said that we would help her with disposing of the books.

She, like us, doesn't want all these nearly 2,000 books to go into the
landfill. All of us would rather see these books go to the Computer
History Museum, good homes, or to the recycle bookstores for
distribution. We all want the landfill to be an absolute last resort.

The man who died was a technical writer who loved and sold books
online. His apartment is filled with books, and some are in a storage
locker. Along with a motorcycle (an old Kawasaki - bad seat),
miscellaneous computer equipment, and some other stuff that we haven't
been able to get to. I believe that I saw lots of computer discs, but I
have no idea what was on them. His sister may have to go through them
to determine if any of them have family value, first.

Right now, most of the books that we've seen on our first pass include:

* Chess books

* Microsoft books that lead to certification

* More Microsoft books that cover different associated products

* Java versions that go to 2.0, as far as we can tell at this point

* Books on semiconductor design and related topics

* Program management

* Real estate, investment, and financial topics

* A few on law - especially about living with someone that you're not
married to

He's supposed to have collected science fiction books, also, but we
haven't come across them - yet.

We managed to verify two numbered boxes against a list that we were
given, and the books in those boxes include:

Please let me know if you have any interest in any of these books,
future books, or more information about these books. I'd rather not
bother the lists any more than I need to. So if I can get a subset of
interested people, I won't have to send the information to the lists,
just to the interested people.

Unless the list managers tell me otherwise. ;-)

Please keep any further distribution to Silicon Valley local people,
unless they are willing to cover any postage fees.

We have a list, but we have not been able to verify the accuracy of the
whole list. For the items in boxes, it appears that it may be accurate.
However, lots of books are not in boxes, so we are not as certain about
them. If anyone has any questions about other potential books, please
send me an e-mail, and I will try to answer any questions.

Until later--

Carole
