Sorry to have to pass on the news that science fiction writer Thomas M. (Tom) Disch apparently committed suicide on Friday, July 4, at his apartment in NYC. It has not been reported in the media yet, but some details & background are in Ellen Datlow's LiveJournal: http://ellen-datlow.livejournal.com/93886.html .

Disch was a grouchy but brilliant guy whom I met a couple of times. He was the author of numerous sf novels and stories, and was probably best known for Camp Concentration (1968) and 334 (1972) and his story "The Brave Little Toaster" (1980).
