A friend and I went to the reading by Neil Gaiman on Saturday night in Palo
Alto. She and I had a bet on how many would show up, with me guessing a
paltry 50 diehard fantasy fans huddling in Spangenberg Auditorium (which has a
capacity of 900) would be all. It was just as well all we bet was a drink, as
there was an estimated 600 people there.
Keplers Bookstore had set up the stage withe tombstones, a graveyard
backdrop, a chair, lamp and, as Gaiman said, "they even killed and stuffed
this
raven for me". Halfway thru the reading a spider rappelled from the
ceiling (how long can a spider spin a thread, anyway?!) to some laughter. Who
says
God writes lousy theater? What timing!
The Graveyard Book chapter was whimsical and fun , I'd like to read the
rest.
They also showed clips from Coraline--a kids book I wouldn't share with
a very small kid. It is stop action, and done by the same people who did the
Nightmare before Christmas.
    How was SiliCon?
