Subject: [Basfa] Minutes of Meeting #975

Meeting #975 was called to order at 2009 on 4/6/09.

There were no officers present.  Kevin Standlee stood in as Presiding
President, Glenn Glazer was the Emergency Holographic Secretary.
A party jar was moved.  There was an amendment to change 'party' to 'TAFF',
which passed 10-3 and the main motion was sustained by a vote of 11-3.

Evil Kevin read the minutes of #979 from his cell phone.  The minutes were
approved as "He didn't write this stuff.".  The fill-in-the-blank passed by 8-5
and the main motion by 10-3.

Announcements:

Dave C: - New Cargo Cult Newsletter out. - Lucasfilm was selling specially
selected Star Wars film frames in a fancy box for only $5,500.

Fred:
- He bought the audiobook of "The Graveyard Book" by Neil Gaiman.  He is
willing to loan it out to anyone who makes a $3 donation to the jar.  There
were a number of positive reviews as follow-ons.
- Norwescon in three days.  Kevin followed-n with Match Game on Friday night,
Westercon 64 bid party on Saturday night.

Mo:
- She has a room for rent in Santa Clara

Glenn:
- Pointed out that Cuisinart lists science fiction as one of the lifestyle
choices on their product registration survey.

Andy:
- Registered members of Anticipation can get eBooks and digitized editions of
the Hugo nominated works on Scalzi's website

Evil Kevin:
- NW Leather Celebration coming up at the Domain Hotel.

Reviews:

Lisa:
- Monsters vs. Aliens: Even her mother liked it, worth full price.  There were
a number of mostly positive follow-ons.

Andy:
- Enjoyed a lunch at the New Zealand Pub and then he and Evil Kevin went to the
American Distillers' 6th Annual Event at St. George's.  This year the focus was
on brandy.  The whole event is pricy and for the trade, but there was a Meet
the Makers for $40/person.  There were some snafus, but worth every penny.
Something like 30-40 distillers and not enough time to get to each one.  Evil
Kevin followed on with how their elite shmoozing skills won them free food and
booze.

Ric:
- ThinkGeek has some April 1st pranks like the Squeeze Bacon.  The Tauntaun
sleeping bag hoax was so popular that they are actually trying to make a
simulated one.

Howeird:
- Oakland Zoo was quite wonderful and worth senior price.
- Contact was not as eclectic as it used to be, but good.  There were
follow-ons.

Bill L.:
- Bob's House Filk (I think that's what he said): a good time was had by all,
nice vibes.

Carol:
- Complications followed her appendix removal requiring two more procedures,
but she's better now.  Having a loving caregiver: worth full price.
- Girl Genius Ball was lots of fun even if she couldn't do any dancing.

Dave C:
- <SPOILER WARNING> Life on Mars turned out, shock and surprise, to be all a
dream.  Too cute by half.
- SFX Magazine had a list of best and worst, proving that you can't get less
than one star.  He read one of the reviews of something bad.

Eric did auctions.  25 cents for a bottle of coke, 25 cents for some British
mags, $1 for a Bloom County book with the original record still in it, candles
for 25 cents, hair products for 25 cents, $2 for a letter opener and a box of
plastic spoons, 25 cents for a sex book.

The meeting was adjourned at 2128.  There was no rumor.
