The mostly same software that was used for the last several years, as written by Ron Oakes. The reason I say mostly is because the software needs to talk to the registration system in intimate, complex ways and since everyone uses a different registration system, that part gets re-written every year.

I’ve been trying to not pester John Lorentz (the lead Administrator) unnecessarily, inasmuch as he’s very busy right now given that the Hugo PIN mailing has been delayed, so there are lots of people who want to nominate who do not have the e-PIN to do so and are submitting requests right away.

Thanks, Kevin. On behalf of the Hugo team, we appreciate that.

As someone who has administered the awards, I’m somewhat mystified at the rush to nominate on Day 1. It’s not like the hotel reservations, where there is a limited supply. There is an unlimited supply of Hugo Award nominations, and nominating on Day 1 or Day 30 or the last week has exactly the same value.

I don't understand it either. But if folks are going to be so gung-ho, maybe we should auction off early nomination rights. ;)

Best,

Glenn

This year’s deadline is in Pacific time. That is, it’s in the same time zone you are in. And if you read what I actually wrote, I didn’t say “last day” but “last week,” in which case time zone is irrelevant.

After losing out for LSC3, that is something I do not recommend doing. I didn't realize that the concom had adjusted the deadline to Texas time until too late. If I had realized they had modified the ballot software to allow editing, I would've input my nominations long before and changed it as I felt necessary. The admin just used what was last saved by the deadline.

Is Sasquan using the same software for the ballot as last year? I'd hate to think they'd move backward.

There's no need. Nominations are open until March 10: http://www.thehugoawards.org/2015/01/2015-hugo-campbell-award-nominations-now-open/

However, I've had a change of my work schedule and therefore will be in the Bay Area a week earlier than I originally expected. Thus the one night I can be down there is January 26. (And then I'll be away for three straight weeks thereafter.)

Personally, I don't recommend sending a nomination ballot until the final week, in order to give yourself enough time to look over what you've read/seen the past year.
