Monday last week, went (physically) to the Internet Archive and saw Lost
Landscapes of San Francisco. Mostly silent home movies from early 1900 to about
1970. Was nice on the big screen, but will be online.
Mo donates to IA. Recommend Harold & Maud as a time capsule of the bay area.

DaveW
After Ursula K LeGuin’s passing, has been reading through No Time to Spare,
series of essays. Related work Hugo eligible.
Listening to podcasts to prepare for Hugos including Sword & Laser and The
Skiffy and Fanty Show, plus a couple others. Trying to keep up.

Last week found out that special premiere of the Winchester movie at Cine Arts.
Was nice to see the house, exhibit and the movie in one night. Loosely based on
Sarah Winchester, but she’s not the main character. Definitely a ghost story.
Helen Mirren was wonderful. Worth full price.

Mo
Winchester. Went to reception, which allowed access to areas not normally
accessible. Peasant and good company. Movie was OK. Tired of stuff jumping out
going boo. Good ghost story. Paid attention to detail of the house in 1906.
Winchester Inspired her to get the book Captive of the Labyrinth by Mary Jo
Ignoffo. Dwells on the history of the Winchesters and their properties (San
Jose to Burlingame) some of which are still there. Interesting history.

Mild review: Saw Sondheim on Sondheim. The portents and importance of the
3Below. Good parking, reserved seats, well made auditorium.
Watched Altered Carbon (on Netflix) based on Richard Morgan novel.
PKDick/BladeRunner-ish storyline. Rebel reawakened in prison is asked to solve
the mystery of the wealthy man by the wealthy man. Looking forward to more.
Star Trek: Discovery - If you gave up early because it’s not trekkie enough for
you - it’s time to get caught up.

DC TV universe shows have gone from great to death spiral of angst. New series
Black Lightning is amazIng, has angst - but different angst. (Ric says it’s
beautiful, and is a follow up to the 20 year old comic.)
Mo recommends it.
Last week saw Maigret series with Rowan Atkinson. Atkinson talked ITV into
doing the new series, and gives a good quiet understated performance as the
eponnomous detective. If you like historical mysteries (‘50s Paris) give it a
go. They seem to be doing two movies a year. Netflix carries it here.

MikeS
Couple weeks ago saw Shen Yun, front an center. Terrific! They do a new show
every year.
Jerry called it the Falun Gong Show

REMINDER: Next week will be the final Hugo recommendation meetings. Please do
not bring auction items.

Meeting adjourned at: 21:13 and the rumor of the week was: what about the
auctions
