Called to order at 8 pm - with neepery 28 people attended we established a party jar The minutes of meeting 1458 were accepted as 'stretching' the Treasurer reported that we took in $9.70 in the regular jar & $4.55 in the party jar the VP had nothing fannish to report the President thanked Congress for demonstrating how a rudimentary knowledge of Parliamentary procedure can make one look better in public - & we said 'hi' to Michael, visiting us for the first time - he is a teacher & learned about BASFA from Bob The Sports Committee reported that he is still investigating buying SJ Sharks tickets for possibly Star Wars night & other factors [like seat locations] ANNOUNCEMENTS: Bill announced that Confluence will be held in 2 weeks in Pittsburg, PA & that he & Carole will be attending - and that he will have a concert there Vikas announced that the Seti Institute will host a talk on 'VR in Space' this Thursday, 7pm at the SRI Institute in Menlo Park & that tickets are required, for more info check https://www.seti.org/event/vrar-space-next-space-revolution Dave C announced that BBC America will have a 'Dr Who new episode' event on Thursday at 8pm REVIEWS: the secretary reviewed 'Ant Man & the Wasp' as a fun movie, worth full price; Dave C followed, saying that he also enjoyed it and there are lots of local shots of the area in the film, Ric enjoyed it & commended the de-aging camera work & Trey made a wretched pun [that it was sad it won't be eligible for the Hugo short form] Bill reviewed Westercon 71 in Denver as there were lots of good panels, the music programming was excellent & the only sour note was that the hotel installed carpet in the room above theirs at 8am Sunday; Lisa commented that the hotel was set up badly for room parties - having only one suite per floor, commended the science panels & thought filking was great & art show was excellent - Dave C had to fight to get into Dealers Room & was one of only 2 book dealers there Lisa reviewed taking the train to Westercon 71 'there and back again' as they went first class & were treated very well & the scenery was lovely Vikas reviewed Scalzi's 'Collapsing Empire' as okay - lots of social intrigue, which is not his cup of tea as he prefers hard sf JC reviewed a recent film, 'Cargo' as a post-zombie event set in Australia, not really exciting, but a real cool take on the genre - definitely recommended & enjoyed Brad reviewed the audiobook for 'Farenheit 451', read by Rim Robbins as very well done & recommended - then JC recommended the current video adaptation with Michael B Jordan that is showing on 'Xfinity on demand' Gayle reviewed some of her Hugo reading - 2 novelettes = 'Wind will Rove' by Sarah Pinsker as her favorite of the 3, 'The Secret Life of Bots' by Palmer as okay & the short Story 'Welcome yo your Authentic Indian Experience' by Roanhorse as she needed to read another review to get a sense of the story we had an auction we adjourned at 9pm Rumor of the week was 'Bob was here' -- ******************* She/whispered/'Oh/my/goodness/what/are/all/these/squirrels/doing/here?'
