Dave C announced that BBC America will have a 'Dr Who new episode' event on
Thursday at 8pm

REVIEWS:
the secretary reviewed 'Ant Man & the Wasp' as a fun movie, worth full
price; Dave C followed, saying that he also enjoyed it and there are lots
of local shots of the area in the film, Ric enjoyed it & commended the
de-aging camera work & Trey made a wretched pun [that it was sad it won't
be eligible for the Hugo short form]

Bill reviewed Westercon 71 in Denver as there were lots of good panels, the
music programming was excellent & the only sour note was that the hotel
installed carpet in the room above theirs at 8am Sunday; Lisa commented
that the hotel was set up badly for room parties - having only one suite
per floor, commended the science panels & thought filking was great & art
show was excellent - Dave C had to fight to get into Dealers Room & was one
of only 2 book dealers there

Lisa reviewed taking the train to Westercon 71 'there and back again' as
they went first class & were treated very well & the scenery was lovely

Vikas reviewed Scalzi's 'Collapsing Empire' as okay - lots of social
intrigue, which is not his cup of tea as he prefers hard sf

JC reviewed a recent film, 'Cargo' as a post-zombie event set in Australia,
not really exciting, but a real cool take on the genre - definitely
recommended & enjoyed

Brad reviewed the audiobook for 'Farenheit 451', read by Rim Robbins as
very well done & recommended - then JC recommended the current video
adaptation with Michael B Jordan that is showing on 'Xfinity on demand'

Gayle reviewed some of her Hugo reading - 2 novelettes = 'Wind will Rove'
by Sarah Pinsker as her favorite of the 3, 'The Secret Life of Bots' by
Palmer as okay & the short Story 'Welcome yo your Authentic Indian
Experience' by Roanhorse as she needed to read another review to get a
sense of the story

we had an auction

we adjourned at 9pm

Rumor of the week was 'Bob was here'
