Recommends Definately worth Kindle. Fred The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers (FogCon GOH) Really Really Good. Recommend. Raises interesting issues. Stephen: Favorite book a few years ago. Review at sf3podcast.com <http://sf3podcast.com/> DaveC. Author will be at FogCon this weekend, and Cargo Cult will be there with the author’s books… Adrienne Gallifrey was a really excellent con. Very polished and popular (compared to Chicago TARDIS) Enjoyed it overall. Tate & Barrowman were great fun. Tickets for next year go on sale April 13 at noon. Andy: Tickets haven’t been selling out fast, so you may not need to be on top of it. ChrisO: Taking a 10 year old fan and mother worth full price. Big Finnish: The Missy Chronicles vol 1. with Michelle Gomez. Includes a visit to Henry VIII’s court. Bill PantheaCon: Good to see pagan friends. Didn’t see any programming, but had fun time. Stitches West - knitting and yarn show. Had a great time of it. Gayle and Lisa H were there. Great for fiber arts… Worth full price. Carole: The have more than knitting and crochet. Weaving and dye classes were also available. Saw Spiderman: Into the Spider Verse. See it before it’s finally gone. Stan Lee cameo! JohnO: BD/DVD release will have a lot of footage that was animated but not included. An alternate universe edition! Cirque du Solei’s Volta. Seemed awfully safe (no new ground or dangerous). Doesn’t live up to the standards of the previous shows. Carole: New art director seems to be a good journeyman. All the pieces are there, but no wow. Villa Montalvo has been featuring Bruce Munro’s light installation. Has Narnia influences. Glad he went. Through Sunday. Carole: The assembly of items was impressive (though not individual components) $20 for shuttle bus, but no extra costs. Gerald Went to MarsCon, in Bloomington Minnesota at the Airport Hilton. Less than 1000 attendees. Had good time. Not a huge program. Panels well attended. The Costumes and masquerade would do credit to a larger con. Very Very Cold. Not used to this cold in March. Not all panelists were able to make it. Worth the trip. He had three Panels and one presentation. Most of his panels ended up being solo presentations. Good parties. Gayle: Science programming is usually very good. They only had one wildlife exhibit this year (usually more). Dead Dog Party was small, saw Day the Earth Stood Still (50s) for the first time. Noticed the wise people from around the world included muti-color and genders. Lance Saw Wandering Earth. Chinese sci-fi (biggest grossing film ever) Based on a story by Liu Cixin who wrote the Three Body Problem. Uber space disaster epic. Well done. Standard characters. Worth big screen. Limited run JohnO: Characters are cardboard, the grand tableau is very grand. Author writes on a grand scale. Enjoyed it. First disaster was a gimme, but second was a wrench of disbelief… SFX amazing. Apparently filmed (90%) in 3D. Lots of companies worked on it. Designed as an exportable film. Long film, no cookies. Worth full price. JohnO Alita: Battle Angel. Grand universe. excellent world building. Lead character is animated with motion capture. The actress trained for all the martial arts (in the MoCap rig!) Based on a manga series. The previews gave away most of plot. Open for sequel. Worth IMAX. How to Train Your Dragon: Hidden World. Conclusion to trilogy. New and different villain (bigger and badder). Emotional, especially if you’ve followed it all. Worth full price 3D Vikas Fire Upon the Deep by Vernor Vinge. Like the older space opera stories. Multiple intersecting storylines. Ending left a little disappointed, but overall a well told story. There was an auction. Meeting adjourned at: 21:29 and the rumor was: Fake rumor
