Announcements DaveG Got his tickets for the last Star Wars movie on December 20... In the run up to Conzealand, one of the contenders was the Sky City convention center in Aukland, which is currently on fire. Lucky they choose Wellington... tallKevin Cheryl Morgan says hello. At Fantasy Con in Scotland, a book she published (Green Man’s Foe) was up for a British Fantasy award (sadly did not win.) Will try to get the book over here for members. Airship Shape and Bristol Fashion 2 will be out soon from Wizards Tower Press. Paper copies can be purchased through Kevin (the tall). This may be the last time this year that Kevin will be at BASFA. (wizardstowerpress.com <http://wizardstowerpress.com/>) evilKevin The musical Nine is playing at the 3Below. (3belowtheaters.com <http://3belowtheaters.com/>) Lisa She has a ticket available (face value) for Symphony Silicon Valley’s Harry Potter and the Half- Blood Prince. Saturday, November 9 at 7:30 at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts. Ken The monthly meeting of the Legion of Rassilon is this Friday. We’ll be watching the Tom Baker story Full Circle. (lor.club <http://lor.club/>) Reviews Lisa Nine the musical at 3Below. Stephen is the lead. Not a big Fellini fan, but it’s a nicely done musical, based on the semi-autobiographical film 8-1/2. It’s a man in a midlife crisis trying to make a film. The kid is wonderful. Really enjoyed it. Worth stopping to watch it. One spoiler(?) When Fellini died, he’d been married to his wife for 50 years. Go see it. It’s worth it! She saw Linda Rondstadt: The Sound of My Voice. Story about her voice and how she lost it due to Parkinson’s. From Stone Pony through the end. Short run at 3Below. Downton Abbey. They made sure to get everyone in the film. The plot revolves around a pending visit from the King and Queen. Wonderful chance to show everything off on the big screen. Maggie Smith is dying of breast cancer in real life, and so is her character. They gave her a wonderful send off. Set up for more stories to come (TV or films) You may not even need to have seen the series. Bill: Don’t need to have seen the series. Great machinations. If you’ve seen the show, excellent fan service. Gerald: Went to Buckland abbey in Plymouth (Francis Drake’s place). Bill Saw My Son the Waiter (a jewish tragedy) a one man show at the Montgomery Theatre. From waiting tables to playing with big comedy shows. Catskills style comedy. Pacific Int’l Quilts Festival. Concenter full of quilts. A massive art exhibit. Not as many astronomical pieces this year, lots of wildlife. Lots of nice works. Lisa: Was a disappointed that she couldn’t go, and they banned rolley carts at the show. evilKevin: Because there were injuries and massive traffic jams, the ban came to be. tallKevin Not going to review Worldcon... He and Lisa went to Giants Causeway. Interesting formation and tricky to get to. Took train most of the way, then a local bus. Very interesting to look at. Would have loved to stayed overnight at the Causeway hotel, but only had 45-minutes. Last full day in Belfast rode the local rail network, friendly conductors let them go to more interesting stops. Saw the linen museum, and a castle. Also went to Belfast transport museum. Really good value if interested in all modes of transport - includes a full and sectioned Delorean. All worth the trip, except for Lisa’s cold... Machine translation of the Hugo ceremony? Could have told them there’d be problems. Originally thought they’d have real time captioning. The tech does not not work for live transcription. CART transcription in Europe more expensive. Dave Zombieland: Double Tap. Very relaxing. Most mellow film about the zombie apocalypse. Same crew from the first film. Move in to the White House and have fun. Also off to Graceland. Relaxing, not threatening. Worth it for a theatre with real butter in the popcorn. Gayle ABC news’ recent reporting on the Syria disaster. The reported footage was actually of a Kentucky pyrotechnics festival. Current journalistic practices are low. Auction Meeting was adjourned at 21:15 and the rumor was: When life gives you a lemon, make BASFA rumors
