Joe Rosenthal <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Rosenthal>, who took the photo of the flag raising on Mt. Suribachi, was a news photographer in San Francisco for most of his life. My grandpa, who served as a Marine reconnaissance photographer in WW II, knew Joe and thought very highly of him.

Went to Moffat Field Historical Society Museum. They were doing the 80th anniversary of the landing on Iwo Jima exhibit. A treasure he’d never seen before. Helpful people, memorabilia, stuff about the blimps and airshows. Open Wed - Sat 10a-3p, $10 admission (Sr. disabled discount). Highly recommend. 12 Severyn Ave, Mt. View. Close to Hangar One. moffettfieldmuseum.org <http://moffettfieldmuseum.org>
