Will need a hand or two for help. Would someone like to do a new rumors of the
week template for printing in large format (he had a graphics template from
long ago, but it’s out of date). [email protected] for all things party
committee!

New Business:

None.

Reviews

Rick:
first season of Pluribus (TV) is ongoing. Audacious series from the Breaking
Bad creator. Fan of 50s classic SF. In the style of classic Twilight Zone
(though not an anthology). Hard to not spoil. Albuquerque is the setting. The
big threat isn’t very threatening, and the good guys aren’t very good. They
have two-year commitment. First episode is the best thing he’s seen lately.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pluribus_(TV_series)

John:
Predator: Badlands (in theatres) latest in the Alien/Predator universe. No
humans, and no connections to other characters. Core is exploration of the
Predator culture. Follows a runt Predator, and a half a synth. Standard youth
adventure, with a group of friends – but on rails. Great cinematography.
Recommend matinee, but they did a good job of 3D.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Predator:_Badlands
Yochanan: A lot of CGI, which was a problem for him. Really build on the
world-building of the Predator culture. Kind of Klingon-esque. Planet is like
Australia on steroids. Smartly done. B++ stand-alone film. Only full price if
this is your jam.

Twisted Metal (Peacock) Binged season 2. Definitely not suitable for NBC (lot
of violence). Anthony Mackie as the Milk Man, – who delivers stuff across a
near future wasteland (most cities are now walled fortresses). Season one was
in New San Francisco. He finds it deathly boring being in the ultimate HOA. SF
CEO wants him to participate in a tournament of “travelers.” This brings it
more in line with the video game. Mackie is not needing to stretch his talent
in this roll… No deep plots, but fun to watch them bash each other up. Violent,
bloody). Don’t need to see season 1 to see 2. Recommend, especially if you
already have Peacock. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twisted_Metal_(TV_series)

Duncan:
The Brand New Testamant (2015 streaming) by writer/director Jaco Van Gormael
(of Mr Nobody (2009)). God is alive in Brussels, in an apartment with no
windows or doors. Amazing, delightful, parody of religion. Highly recommend.

<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Brand_New_Testament>
Rick: Works, but is extremely French.

Yochanan:
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (AMC+) recently concluded third season. Best
spinoff of the Walking Dead. Set in Spain, mixed language, beautiful locations.
A+ for whole series, A++ for season 3. Highly recommended.

Monster House (2006) GC/MoCap animated horror/comic. Crazy story. Fun, dated,
nostalgia. Maybe tween and up.
Aatheus: Remembers it as being goofy/fun horror. Polar Express syndrome (the
CGI). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_House_(film)

Wish Upon (2017) Horror/Fantasy. Feels like a Netflix film. Jolie King is a
teenage girl given a Chinese magic box, with 7 wishes (with the usual caveats).
Was a bit disappointing. C- worth meh. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wish_Upon
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wish_Upon>

Aatheus:
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Worth the wait. This series has no right to be
so good and so clever (as a friend of his said). The Gamora sub plot kind of
bogs it down, but still highly recommended.

<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guardians_of_the_Galaxy_Vol._3>
Yochanan: Loved it, and Aetheus’ friend is right.

When The Moon Hits Your Eye, by John Scalzi. After effects of the moon turning
into cheese. A Scalzi novel: AKA not bad (and sufferes from saidism…) The audio
book was narrated by Wil Wheaton. Good time filler for a trip back from Paris.

Ken
R.U.R. (Rossum’s Universal Robots, Lohman Theatre, Foothill College) West Coast
premiere of a recent updating of the classic Karel Čapek. Simple one set
staging (two acts) great cast, and a great story. A play from over 100 years
ago, still relevant on the topic of Artificial Intelligence. Our performance
was followed by a discussion on AI (it wasn’t listed as a feature when we
purchased). The theatre is very intimate, so there’s no bad place to sit. Run
ends this Sunday (23 November). Highly recommend. foothill.edu/theatre/RUR.html

Lisa:
Nightmare Before Christmas Hollywood Bowl. Look for it online (there’s been a
couple songs on FaceBook) – it was wonderful! There’s also a making of out
there with Danny Elfman.

Rumor of the Week:

“Parisian Furries,” not a phrase you expect to hear every day.

Adjourned at: 21:03

There was no auction
