I mentioned being utterly charmed by the MCU miniseries "Wonder Man", recently pushed out the door by Disney+, which made all episodes available for streaming on Jan. 27th. To recap, this is absolutely the opposite of what you expect: There's no superhero bombast. Instead, it's a little, sprightly inside-Hollywood comedy/drama, completely about character, with intelligent writing and excellent acting, especially by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as rookie film actor Simon Williams and Ben Kingsley as failed actor Trevor Slattery.
It's the most inside-Hollywood thing I've seen since "The Player". Well, before tossing the series out the transom, Marvel Entertainment also made three tie-in YouTube clips: "The Slattery Method by Trevor Slattery", https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfJyAKSI7Zo A promo for an acting workshop with Kingsley's self-impressed actor character. "Wonder Man's Trevor Slattery Loses it During Ben Mankiewicz Interview", in which Slattery appears on a fictional podcast loses his cool. "Wonder Man's Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery | Actors Unscripted", in which both fictional actors appear on a fictional interview show. I'll bet Ben Kingsley has a blast doing a Liverpudlian, booze-addled failed actor, at least judging by how often he's been brought back to do it again after the character's debut in "Iron Man 3". In fact, Kingsley says so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxl6UhHaYic _______________________________________________ Basfa mailing list [email protected] http://lists.basfa.org/listinfo.cgi/basfa-basfa.org
