I agree with Thomas here. Basicly Batik and FOP is different stuff with its own strengh and weakness. One is about vector graphics format and the other is page layout format with transformation (if I am not wrong). On the graphics format side SVG is more rich where on the text and layout XSL-FO is more rich, but they both are different project.
