I've finally found the time to look into this further by contacting the
Apache
repository group directly:

The current process involves uploading jars to cvs.apache.org @
/www/www.apache.org/dist/java-repository. These jars are then automatically
uploaded to ibilio.org on a routine basis. So, there is no need to request
an upload by the Maven group as J Aaron Farr had done.
I've prepared project descriptors for the various Batik jars as Brett Porter
requested. Also, I've created a shell script that uploads the files,
generates the MD5 hash values for each file, and changes the group ownership
to 'apcvs'. I've tested this script on people.apache.org by uploading to a
directory under my home directory instead of the actual java-repository.
Everything appears in order as far as directory structure and permissions
and the MD5 hashes are correct. If anyone is interested in the results, the
mock repository is at
http://people.apache.org/~brentworden/dist/java-repository
If there are no objects, I'll proceed with uploading the jars to the actual
repository.

I'll contact Jason van Zyl and confirm his script is still valid for this
process. If so, I should have the necessary permissions to perform this
myself, if no one objects.
I don't have an objection but I am a little nervous that neither
of us seems to really understand the system for putting things out.
Which makes me nervous that we might break existing stuff.
Can you try and contact J Aaron Farr who I think did this last time:

Looking at the 1.6 binary distribution, which jars should be uploaded?
All the lib/batik-*.jar files I assume are critical.
What about the jars in the root directory? The lib/extension directory?
They all have useful stuff in them. I don't know what the rules are.
He mentions 26 jars which I think means everything went...

What's the possibility release 1.6 could get pushed to the java
repository
(http://www.apache.org/dist/java-repository/)? The end effect that it
would
then be synched to the Ibibio maven repository.
Does anyone know what needs to happen for this? Does it need to be
formatted some way or something? Links to what needs to happen?
I ask, because I have project using a maven build that depends on batik
and
I would like to update it to the latest batik release.
Thanks,
Brent
