I would suggest to start out with documenting which parts in the "uDOM" are already implemented in Batik possibly along with documenting which parts of it are already covered by the SVG 1.1 DOM (Batik already im- plements most of the SVG 1.1 DOM and some parts of the new features in the "uDOM"). This will give you a better understanding of what needs to be done and would have utility outside the Batik project.
