    Well, things improved a little bit with the DP2 release of Java.
But they still have significant issues with child rasters.  I
submitted another simple test case for them to debug against, but I
have heard nothing back from them on this topic at all.

    I can only hope that when Mac OS 10.1 ships (very soon now) it
will all magically work.  I try not to be too hard on Apple since they
did choose the proper route of integrating Java Graphics with the
Quartz engine. It's worth knowing this is really the first time the
Java2D engine has been integrated with something other than the
'Ductus' renderer on which the Win32 and X11 versions are built, so
I'm sure they are breaking a whole lot of new ground, probably with
out a lot of guidance available.

    Anyway with all the work they are doing to tie into the hardware
acceleration it should hopefully be a very impressive platform for
Batik when they are done.
